So I just feel the need to ask this because I want to know if this happens to anyone else, or if I'm just weird. Recently my aunt Gizele passed away after a massive heart attack at the way too young age of 53. Obviously, my family are all mostly in shock and mourning the loss of someone so young; and I'm aware that everyone grieves differently. I've noticed a bit of a trend with myself though that bothers me a little bit, and I'm just wondering if anyone else goes through something similar.
Back in April of 1999, I believe it was, my grandfather passed away. It was a very difficult time for me, as he was one of my hero's in life and I always aspired to be as kind and good to everyone as he was. Shortly after his death I started having dreams about him, and the most vivid and memorable of them was one where our whole family gathered together to mourn and grieve and celebrate his life and he was there, sitting in the corner joining in the conversation. It seemed as though I was the only one that could see him and hear him and I couldn't understand why nobody else could, or why they thought he was dead. He was clearly alive, sitting right there in the corner joining in the conversation. Needless to say, it was a bit of an awkward and uncomfortable dream. A very similar type dream happened a couple of years later when my grandmother passed away as well. And then just last night I had a dream about my aunt Gizele. This time though, she was walking around and living life as if she had never died. It was as though she didn't realize that she had died and everybody else could see her as well, and they acted like she had never died or something, it was very bizarre. Unfortunately, I can't remember all of the details of it so I can't relate it properly but, it really bothered me.
I guess I'm just wondering if this is a typical response to the death of a loved one? Is it sub-conscious hopeful thinking? Or is there something more 'mystical' going on, like "sixth-sense"-type stuff? I'm not really sure anybody has an exact answer to any of those questions, but I'm curious to know what theories any of you might have. So, please feel free to add any comments you have on the matter.
